One of the biggest concerns to many individuals when deciding if they want to buy a real Christmas tree or a fake one is how they are going to keep a real Christmas tree fresh-looking and healthy. Keeping a real Christmas tree fresh is not as difficult as some may think. With our easy tips and tricks for keeping a real Christmas tree fresh, you will be on your way to a beautiful-looking and -smelling Christmas.
- The Tree – The first helpful tip begins with selecting a healthy tree to begin with. You will want to look for a Christmas tree that has full needles and doesn’t shed needles easily. You can give a tree a little shake to see if needles easily fall off. If they do, then move on to a different one. It will be too difficult to keep an already weak tree healthy until Christmas.
- The Trunk – Before you leave with your new Christmas tree, ask that the bottom several inches be cut off of the trunk. This will remove hardened sap, which can prevent your tree from getting enough water.
- Heat – Your Christmas tree doesn’t like to be hot. Avoid placing your Christmas tree near a heater vent. If that is your only option, then close that vent so that hot air is not blowing on or near your tree.
- Water – The most important thing you will do for keeping a real Christmas tree fresh looking is don’t let it run out of water. You will want to water it often enough so that it always has water covering at least the bottom 2 inches of the trunk.
