The holidays are meant to be enjoyed, filled with merriment and fun times with family. They aren’t meant to be filled with stress and anxiety over the fear of things going wrong or someone getting hurt. Practicing holiday safety is imperative in order to have a wonderful holiday season without worrying about potential accidents and mistakes. Here at Evergreen Elf, our team wants you to stay safe during the holidays. Here are a few holiday safety tips to prevent disaster and stay safe.

Holiday Safety 101

  • Be Careful with Candles– Candles are a popular holiday decoration that adds elegance and a pleasant fragrance to the room. However, if you are not careful about where you put them or what you put beside them, they can do some damage to your home. Make sure you keep candles away from paper, trees, greenery, and anything dry or that can easily burn.
  • Check Your Lights– Stringing lights up both indoors and outdoors is a typical holiday tradition. However, it is important that the lights you string up inside and outside your home are meant for those locations. There are certain things you should look for when choosing lights. Indoor lights have a green or silver tag with UL printed in green, and outdoor lights have UL printed in red on silver or red tags. Most LED lights are safe for indoor and outdoor use, but check with the manufacturer before using. Putting lights in a location they weren’t made for can be a fire hazard.
  • Choose a Smart Spot for Your Tree & Keep It Hydrated– A well-placed tree is also key to staying safe during the holidays. You want to make sure your tree is placed away from any heat source such as fireplaces, radiators, vents, etc. Along with placing your tree away from these heat sources, you want to make sure your tree is well-hydrated at all times to keep it from getting dry and becoming a fire hazard.

As you can see, practicing holiday safety is very important in order to keep your family and home safe. Watering your tree regularly and making sure it doesn’t get dry is the best thing you can do to protect the holidays, and the Evergreen Elf can help you do that. Contact us today to learn more!
